“the taste and pleasure of matcha tea depends on the quality of the chasen. If the chasen is of high quality, then the matcha will have an excellent flavor.”<\/em><\/p>\n This whip is entirely handmade by Hirata-san and his father.<\/p>\n Together, they can make just 10 a day, while demand for their master craftsman whips is beyond their capacity in Japan alone.<\/p>\n Their knowledge has been handed down from generation to generation. Hirata-san has been making matcha tea whips by hand for 20 years, and his father for over 50.<\/p>\n They use the same craft techniques as 500 years ago.<\/p>\n Hirata-san invites you to take pleasure in your choice of matcha tea utensils. Because an excellent whisk will produce a tasty matcha.<\/p>\n This whip is in fact a precious and rare work of art.<\/p>\n In the video above, Hirata-san’s father shows us one of the secrets of an artisan matcha tea whisk: the “shinari”.<\/p>\n Shinari means “to be bent” or “flexibility”. Achieving shinari can’t be done by machine; each strand has to be worked by hand, one by one.<\/p>\n
